Recent Research Results in Image and Video Processing Abstract Biography This year, he received the 2006 James H. Mulligan, Jr. IEEE Education Medal for “outstanding contributions to electrical engineering education through pioneering textbooks, innovative laboratory development, and curriculum reform.” He is the recipient of numerous other awards during his distinguished career at UC Santa Barbara, including the 1989 Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Germany) Distinguished Senior U.S. Scientist, the IEEE Millennium Medal in 2000, and the 2002 Technical Achievement Award of EURASIP. In 2006, Professor Mitra joined the Viterbi School at USC as the Stephen and Etta Varra Professor of Electrical Engineering (Systems). Professor Mitra received a B.S. with honors in Physics from Utkal University, India, in 1953, an M.S. in Radio Physics and Electronics from the University of Calcutta in 1956, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1960 and 1962, respectively.
